Where Titanium Excels
- Seawater and chlorides — essentially immune to pitting
- Oxidizing acids (e.g. nitric)
- Wet chlorine, hypochlorite, brine
- Most organic acids and many process chemicals
When to Use Palladium Grades
In hot reducing acids (e.g. HCl, H2SO4), CP titanium can corrode. Grade 7, 11 or 16 (with small Pd additions) dramatically extend the limits, as does Grade 12 (Ni-Mo).
Limits to Watch
- Dry chlorine can cause rapid attack
- Strong reducing acids without Pd alloying
- Hydrofluoric acid — attacks titanium readily
